What is the House Speaker and who elects him?
Every assembly, the majority leadership gathers together in November to decide who the next Speaker of the House will be. The Speaker of the House dictates what committee a bill goes to, whether or not that committee is allowed to vote it out, and whether or not there is a vote on the floor. All legislative action is under the direct control of the Speaker. If members act outside of his wishes, they are often punished.
Arguably, a representative’s Speaker vote is the most important vote. It will make or break the entire assembly, because it will dictate every piece of legislation that does or does not pass out of the House.

Why Ohioans should demand ANYONE BUT HUFFMAN for Speaker
Medical freedom issues
- Blocking the vote on HB 12 Right to Try (protects access to off-label treatment options & protects medical free speech)
- Blocking the movement of HB 112 “Conscientious Right to Refuse Act” (protects you from discrimination or job loss based on vaccination or mask refusal)
- Blocking the movement of HB 561 “Parental CHOICE Act” (requires preschools and K–12 schools to notify parents of vaccine exemptions & honor them)
- Blocking HB 290, the “Atmosphere Protection Act” (geoengineering ban)
- Blocking movement of HB 182 — “Safe Water Act” (remove fluoride from public drinking water)
- Passed SB 56, a total BAN on HEMP products that were used primarily by the elderly and veterans to manage their health conditions instead of going to Big Pharma or Big Marijuana. The passage of this bill actually handed a MONOPOLY to BIG Marijuana and BIG Pharma while decimating many lawfully operating small business owners.
- Blocked the following provisions from being included in the budget last year:
- Requiring Medicaid physicians to report vaccine injuries within 30 days
- Testing the tap water in several major cities to look for puberty-blocking chemicals (38% of Ohio babies are bottle-fed with tap water)
- Requiring schools to notify parents they had a right to vaccine exemptions for school attendance
Data center issues
Speaker Matt Huffman has been quietly paving the way for data centers to inundate communities while crippling the citizens’ ability to push back or have a voice.
- Refuses to call the vote for a veto override that would finally ABOLISH statewide tax ABATEMENTS for DATA CENTERS
- Passed HB 184 — gave data centers protection from public scrutiny by preventing their agreements with local government entities from being public-records requested
- Passed HB 126, which gives Big Tech / data centers IMMUNITY from public nuisance lawsuits
- Passed legislation last year that RAISED the referendum signature requirement from 10% to 35% (making it 3 times harder for citizens to put data center moratoriums on the ballot)
- Passed HB 15, which gave a 70% property TAX BREAK on all new electric generation. This mostly benefits “behind the meter” power plants that power new data centers, stripping millions in revenue from local affected communities.
General issues
- Refuses to pass any serious property tax relief for homeowners
- Blocking HB 577 — election security: requires photo ID for mail-in ballots
- Passed $600 million in taxpayer-funded Browns stadium bonds that gave a kickback to his biggest donors — the Haslams
